During the 70's funk paved its way to the American mainstream and Dayton, Ohio was the epicenter. The Ohio Players, Zapp, Lakeside, Slave, Heatwave, Sun all came out of the Dayton, area. More funk bands of future influence than any place in the world came out of Dayton, commanding it to gracefully take its place in history known as "The Land Of Funk" coined in the Lakeside's classic single, "Fantastic Voyage."
Lakeside™️ is a world class showband of pioneers driven in funkology! The band has maintained its unique sound over the years. The show stopping group made its mission churning out so many Notorious Funk Gems such as "It's All The Way Live," "I wanna hold your hand," “Raid", “Fantastic Voyage!”

Mark Adam Wood Jr. has been around the entertainment industry for over 30 years, he started singing at age 3 in the church choir, then in the high school choir where he met up with what would become "The Nomads".
His career started in the land of funk music, DAYTON, OHIO in 1969. Mark Wood began as lead vocalist in a singing group called the Nomads. next the nomads, MARK, Tiemeyer Mc'Cain,and later Stephen Shockley who had been released from a band of older musicians called the Monterays, decided to form a self-contained band, The Nomads & The Young Underground which became the Young Underground, which later became The Lakeside Express and evolved into the legendary funk band known all over the world as Lakeside. Lakeside has received standing ovations in such venues as Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, the Rose Bowl, Greek Theater, The Chicago Theater, Erie Crown and Rosemont Horizon, Philly Dell East, MZA Club, Club D, Billboard Live in Tokyo and Osaka Japan, The National arts Theater in Nigeria,The Nokia Theater, and many more venues worldwide.
Recently, his LAKESIDE featuring MARK WOOD SOLO performances have included venues such as The Anaheim Grove, The Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Az., Las Vegas, Nv. and San Manuel Casino, Morongo Casino, just to name a few.
Mark's 1st recording experience occurred in Chicago when he was introduced to Curtis Mayfield through Eddie Thomas, as a kid. later in California, mark met a great producer named Frank Wilson from Motown who released their ballad on
ABC records entitled "If I Didn't Have you".
Shortly thereafter, Mark met his mentor, a man named Dick Griffey from Solar Records who published his 1st song "Happy Holidays to You "recorded by the Whispers. As a result of this relationship, they recorded 5 gold CDs 1 platinum Cd and multiple TV shows including Sinbad's HBO summer jam 2, bet live, soul train, ab-Dick Clark, MTV and VH1. his recordings were also played in motion pictures such as south central, Eddie with Whoopi Goldberg, and Sinbad's movie the first kid where the president's son learns to dance to mark wood's most successful recording, the classic "Fantastic Voyage." also recorded a live cd before 15,000 people and toured as special guest star of the Budweiser Super Fest, 3 consecutive years. his numerous tours also include the Solar Galaxy of Stars, Africa, Europe, a live remote from Rotterdam to all of Holland, US Military tour in Germany, from Berlin to Stuttgart and Japan from Sapporo to Tokyo.
In 2005, The United Jam Society and Stargate Productions lifelong friend (William Shelby (R.I.H.P.) songwriter of "and the beat goes on", "second time around", "it's a love thang" and many more) teamed up to produce Mark's first solo Demo cd, "THE ADVENTURES OF MRKYSTAR." William Shelby was hired as studio and engineer and collaborated with Mark on the Demo. In this project MRKYSTAR or MARQUEE STAR describes an extension of his alter ego, a nomadic interplanetary time traveler whose message of love and funky adventures bring earth and the cosmos together to save the milky way beyond. this alter ego with an interplanetary flare becomes the social & soulful voice for the multi global movement. . . . and the saga continues. buy Indie music: STILL YOUR BEST ENTERTAINMENT VALUE.
